What is Icelandic Lamb Tallow
Lamb tallow is rendered fat from sheep, purified into a smooth balm that supports the skin barrier. Icelandic sourcing matters because the sheep are raised in a clean, cold environment and spend much of the year roaming on natural forage.
Why Icelandic sourcing matters
-
Clean environment - Iceland’s cold climate and remote grazing reduce many common agricultural stressors.
-
Free-roaming herds - A lifestyle closer to nature-based grazing.
-
Tradition - Tallow has long been used in northern climates for dry, wind-exposed skin.
Sourcing
Nordur tallow begins with lamb sourced from sheep raised on remote Icelandic pastures. The animals roam freely in a cold, clean environment and graze on natural forage, which contributes to the consistency and quality of the raw fat used.
Rendering
The lamb fat is slowly rendered using controlled heat to separate pure tallow from water and solids. This traditional process allows the fat to liquefy and clarify without the use of chemicals or additives, resulting in a clean, stable base.
Filtering
Once rendered, the tallow is carefully filtered to remove any remaining particles or impurities. Multiple passes ensure a smooth, uniform texture and help extend shelf stability while preserving the natural properties of the fat.
Blending
For scented or whipped varieties, the filtered tallow is gently blended in small batches. This step allows for consistent texture and even distribution of any added ingredients, while keeping the formulation simple and minimally processed.
